TASK 6

Benefits of adopting

  • Research tells us that companion animals, such as cats and dogs, can help improve our physical and mental health. By adopting and spending time with a animal friend, you can experience the benefits of lowered stress levels and blood pressure.
  • Cats and dogs provide friendship for lonely individuals, and open opportunities for interacting with others which an older person may miss if family is far away.
  • The company of a beloved pet has been proven to reduce depression.
  • The quiet and doting home of a senior citizen is the perfect match for an older animal looking for a new home.
  • Senior animals are often gentler, calmer companionship, and often are already trained.

HERE I HOPE EVERYONE WILL CHOOSE TO ADOPT RATHER THN BUYING A NEW PET
    AS I ALSO ADOPTED A DOG N A TORTOISE.

TASK 5

Who is PAWS?

PAWS is people helping animals. We are the kind of people who delight in the company of an animal friend, who are awed by a majestic eagle in flight. Like you, we understand that animals enrich our lives. We also know they cannot speak for themselves and need protection. That is why PAWS brings together people like you to ensure animals are respected, safe and have a voice.
Since 1967, PAWS has united more than 130,000 companion animals with loving families, cared for 115,000 injured and orphaned wild animals, and made the world a better place for countless others through advocacy and education.
CAS Dog 05

PAWS' Mission

PAWS is a champion for animals—rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, sheltering and adopting homeless cats and dogs, and educating people to make a better world for animals and people.

PAWS' Vision

PAWS envisions a world where all people recognize the intrinsic value of animals and consistently make choices that demonstrate compassion and respect.

Core Beliefs

PAWS Values:

  • The recognition and respect of the intrinsic value of animal life.
  • The capability of animals to express their natural and innate behaviors in appropriate ways, and experience the highest quality of life possible.
  • The right of animals to be free from cruelty, neglect, and abuse.
  • The importance of ending companion animal overpopulation.
  • The caring guardianship of companion animals.
  • The preservation of wild species and their habitats.
  • The role that all humans play in the active stewardship of maintaining the environmental and ecological balance of the earth.
  • The consideration of the animals' best interest when making decisions, along with consideration of the long-term consequences and the impact of our work when determining how best to allocate PAWS' resources.
  • The trust that the public places in us with regard to animal care and the management of our resources.

PAWS' core organizational positions on animal issues

    CAS Dog Adopt 01
  • People and animals are well-served when everyone gives thoughtful consideration to how their attitudes, actions, and behaviors impact the animals with whom we share the earth.
  • Public outreach and education efforts are most effective when presented using legal and non-confrontational methods. PAWS advocates for animals by leading issue campaigns, working with elected officials, proposing animal-friendly legislation, and providing education to the public; and through the compassionate and appropriate way we treat the animals in our care.
  • Wild animals are best served by being allowed to live undisturbed in their natural environment. Wild animals should not be owned as household pets or property. Wild animals of any kind should not be used for commercial exploitation.
  • Companion animals should be spayed or neutered because this is the most humane and effective way to end the suffering, killing, and need for euthanasia of animals caused by companion animal over-population. Breeding that is not managed or is irresponsible contributes to companion animal over-population and is therefore opposed.
  • Farm animals have the right to physically move about freely, to engage in their natural behaviors, and to live without imposed stress and fear. Animal-friendly diets and lifestyles are promoted because they alleviate the suffering of farm animals as well as positively impact the health of people and the environment.
  • Cruel and inhumane research and product testing on animals promotes animal suffering. Non-animal methods for research and product testing should always be explored and used.
  • Companion animals are euthanized only when all reasonable courses of treatment and determination of adoptability have been exhausted. Wild animals are euthanized only when there is no reasonable chance of release and survival in their natural habitats.
  • In our role of upholding the rights of animals, we believe it is our responsibility to educate the public about the positions PAWS holds and values.

TASK 4

6253 intro.jpg

Happiness–it's what we all strive to find and keep, even when it's as elusive as ever. Nobody is jolly and elated all the time, but some individuals are definitely more fulfilled than others. Studies reveal that happiness has little to do with materialistic needs, goods, or wants, or high achievement; it boils down to your outlook on life, the quality of your relationships, and basic amenities like good governance and community resources. Check Step 1 and beyond for more tips and tricks on how to unlock the happier you.
1 Be optimistic. In the 1970s, researchers followed people who'd won the lottery and found that a year afterward, they were no happier than people who didn't. This hedonic adaptation[1] suggests that we each have a baseline level of happiness. No matter what happens, good or bad, the effect on our happiness is temporary, and we tend to revert to our baseline level. Some people have a higher baseline happiness level than others, and that is due in part to genetics, but it's also largely influenced by how you think.
  • Add up all the little joyful things that happen to you during the day. Write them down. For example, if there was no traffic on the road, if you had a very decent and scrumptious breakfast, if your friend said something uproariously humorous that made you laugh, if you took your dog out for a walk in the park and played with it, add these together. Your outlook will change.
  • Feel deeply grateful for the things you have. This is a very effective way to be happy. If you feel grateful for the things you have, you not only become more happy but it also helps you to bring more into your life.
  • View the glass as half-full instead of half-empty. Your girlfriend/ boyfriend broke up with you? Now you have the chance to meet someone else! You lost your job? Now you can seize the opportunity to find a better one! Adjust your mentality so that, in everything that happens to you, there's some kernel of good.
  • Put yourself in situations where fabulous, fortunate things are likely to happen to you. It's easier to remain optimistic if you set yourself up for success. Cheating on a partner, or stealing someone's bicycle — while temporarily thrilling — rarely end well for any party involved. Ask yourself before you act: Am I setting myself up for success or for failure?
  • Think of your current situation (however hard it may be) and then think of how much harder some other people have it. Just be happy that you are not in that worse situation. Learn to enjoy your life!

2Follow your gut. In one study, two groups of people were asked to pick a poster to take home. One group was asked to analyze their decision, weighing pros and cons, and the other group was told to listen to their gut. Two weeks later, the group that followed their gut was happier with their posters than the group that analyzed their decisions.[2] Now, some of our decisions are more crucial than picking out posters, but by the time you're poring over your choice, the options you're weighing are probably very similar, and the difference will only temporarily affect your happiness.

  • Next time you have a decision to make, and you're down to two or three options, just pick the one that feels right, and go with it. Never regret the decisions you make, though. Just live by the 3 C's of life: choices, chances, and changes. You need to make a choice to take a chance, or your life will never change.
    3
Own yourself. This means accept and embrace your habits, your personality, mistakes, the way you talk, looks, your voice, and most importantly 'You'. Try to be comfortable in your own skin and subconsciously communicate to others that, 'This is me take it or leave it'. It means don't apologize to anyone for something which is a part of you, like your personality, your voice, habits (good or bad), basically anything; remember there is always someone who likes you for the way you are. For example if you want to wear something which is weird but you find it cool, wear it, no one is stopping you. Its a deeper step towards building a good relationship with yourself.

TASK 3

LOCAL ENGLISH OR STANDARD ENGLISH?
this is one of my favorite video from youtube! the video talks about whether local english better? or standard english. As all of us know, Malaysian's English is bahasa rojak.. we mix up the standard english with other languages!
such as: "eh, later eat where LAH?" , "whatever LAH." , "okay GUA"  etc
but.. to me, i prefer both!! when needed, we have n MUST speak standard english, but for this local english, it is soooooo colourful!
how can we 'erase' it??
therefor, to me. all oso OKAY LAR!!!!
n i love local english!!!
